The flag of Greenland consists of two equal horizontal bands of white on top and red below, with a large circle positioned in the center. The circle is positioned slightly to the left, appearing closer to the hoist side.
The white band symbolizes the ice and snow that covers much of Greenland, while the red band represents the sun shining in the sky during the long summer days. The circle is said to represent the sun, as well as unity among the people of Greenland.
The flag was officially adopted on June 21, 1985, to replace the previous flag that had been in use since 1979. Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and its flag is often used to represent its unique identity and culture.
